Governance Overview
Messari Governance is an essential resource for exploring, tracking, and participating in the future of Web3. Currently, Messari has coverage for over 5000 Proposals from hundreds of DAOs. You can find discussions, track voting progress, and gauge community moods with Messari’s Sentiment Analysis.
This page includes a step-by-step guide on getting the most from the Governance feature, along with hot tips for success and FAQs collected from Messari users. Be sure to check out the full Video Library for detailed walkthrough videos.

Access Governance
Use the top menu to find the Intel
tab and select Governance
from the dropdown. This provides a full table view of Messari's Proposal, Discussion, and Voting coverage.

Sample Governance Views
There are multiple pre-made samples available in the left-side navigation menu that will help you quickly explore the dataset. The views cover All Proposals, Preliminary Discussions, Upcoming Votes, Active Votes, Queued, and Completed.
All Proposals
The All Proposals view covers thousands of proposals across over 800 DAOs. Many users prefer to begin here and filter by their Watchlist. Additional filters such as Category and Subcategory are also available.
Preliminary Discussions
The Preliminary Discussions view provides quick access to those Proposals that are in the Discussion stage. Once again, there are filters available by Watchlist, Category, Subcategory, and Importance.
Messari Sentiment Analysis has been included as a column to provide an objective indication of whether this proposal has the possibility of passing.
Active Votes
The Active Votes view allows users to quickly explore those that are in the voting stage. Filters are available, and note that the columns now include when voting starts and ends.
Proposals
Proposal Preview
Selecting a proposal will open its sidebar preview panel. This includes the underlying metadata tags as well as a brief description of updates. There are links to the primary sources, and selecting View Full Proposal
will take you to the Proposal page.
Proposal Page
The Proposal Page centralizes proposal information in one location for a deep dive into understanding the proposal, following voting progress, tracking the discussion, and continuing your review with related proposals.
Proposal Details
The Proposal Summary is front and center. This includes the Classification by Category, Subcategory, and Importance, as well as links to the Forum Discussion or Vote.
Voting Results
Messari tracks voting progress from start to finish and includes total For, Against, and Abstaining. Top wallets are included with their voting direction and total number of votes. These links will open the associated blockchain explorer for further investigation.
Key Info and Details
The Key Info section provides additional links and data, and you can select VIEW
to review the underlying Proposal Details.
Discussion
The Discussion section provides the Messari Sentiment Analysis with links to the full discussion.
Related Proposals
Related Proposals can be found at the bottom of the page to continue your review.
Governance Alerts
Governance Alerts allow you to track and stay up to date on important voting, forum and proposal activity for your DAOs of choice.
Access Governance Alerts
These can be set by visiting Tools
in the top menu, selecting Alert Manager
, and then clicking on the Governance
tab in the Alert Manager.
Alternatively, you can use the Alert Me
option in the top right corner of any Project Page and select the Governance section.
Set Governance Alerts
A side panel will appear, displaying the different governance alert options you can create.
- All Activity will notify you of all new proposals, discussions and voting milestones.
- Important Activity will alert you on "High" and "Very High" priority discussions, proposals, and voting milestones only.
- Voting Activity will notify you on voting milestones on all proposals. This includes when proposals are created, when voting begins, nears completion, ends, and when the decision is executed.
- Custom will allow Enterprise subscribers to fully customize their specific alerts. Visit the Custom Alerts section below for more information.
Once you have selected the desired alerting option, you will then need to choose a preferred delivery method for the alerts.
Email will display the associated account email to which alerts will be delivered. The Cadence drop-down menu will allow you to select a Daily, Weekly, or Real-Time delivery option.
Once you've selected the desired options, click Submit
to activate the alert. You should have a pop-up toast on the bottom right hand of the window which will confirm that your alert has been created.
Custom Governance Alerts
Custom Alerts allow Enterprise users to choose their specific discussion and proposal criteria for alerting. Custom Alerts can be set for New Discussions, Off-Chain Proposals, and On-Chain Proposals.
After setting your alert inclusion criteria, you will be prompted to choose the preferred delivery method as outlined above.
New Discussions
New Discussions allows you to set alerts for any new forum discussions for your DAOs of interest.
You are able to filter by Importance, Category, Sub-Category and Sentiment.
Off-Chain Proposals
Off-Chain Proposals allow you to set alerts for any activity related to an off-chain proposal of interest.
You are able to set notifications when proposals are created, voting begins, when voting is about to end, and when voting has actually ended. You are also able to filter these notifications by Importance, Category, and Sub-Category.
On-Chain Proposals
On-Chain Proposals allow you to set alerts for any activity related to an on-chain proposal of interest.
You can choose to set notifications when proposals are created, voting begins, when voting is about to end, and when voting has actually ended. You're also able to filter these notifications by Importance, Category, and Sub-Category.
Manage Governance Alerts
Return to your Alert for editing or deletion using the same two methods for setup - either on the Alert Me
button on the Project Page or by visiting Tools
and clicking on Alert Manager
to access the Governance
tab.
A side panel will appear that will display the different governance alert options you can create. Select Remove alerts
.
A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm if you would like to remove all governance alerts for the respective DAO. Click Remove Alerts
. Note: Custom settings will not be saved.

Governance FAQs
Can I connect my wallet to vote on proposals?
Currently, Messari does not support wallet connection and voting. If you'd like this feature to be added, please send us a note through our Contact Support form.
How do I customize my Governance Alerts?
Governance Alerts notify you of important proposal and voting activity, such as new proposals, voting milestones, and custom events for DAOs you follow. Currently, custom Governance Alerts are only available to Enterprise subscribers.
What is Messari Sentiment Analysis?
Messari Sentiment Analysis provides an objective indication of whether a proposal is likely to pass based on community sentiment.
Help! I can't find the DAO I'm looking for, where is it?
